In Pontoise, in the Val-d'Oise (95), the event is shaping up to be festive, with a big public dance and the traditional fireworks to close it out in style.

The French National Holiday, celebrated on July 14th, commemorates two major historical events: the storming of the Bastille in 1789, which marked the start of the French Revolution, and the Fête de la Fédération in 1790, a symbol of national unity.

Established in 1880, this day is emblematic of French freedom and democracy, and is traditionally celebrated with military parades (notably the one on the Champs-Élysées in Paris), fireworks displays (the most legendary being the one fired from the Eiffel Tower), concerts and popular balls.
