Let us meet at Ritz Paris for a teatime untouched by time. Two choices are available, the Afternoon Tea at the Bar Vendôme and its bright setting, or the Christmas tea at the Salon Proust, in a cozier setting. From November 28, 2022, to January 5, 2023, for the Holidays, then, have a seat and enjoy François Perret's delicious and indulging creations.
The Bar Vendôme expects you under the glass roof, every day from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. On the menu, spicy teas and crazy hot cocoas. And then again two choices: the Christmas tea for €68 including a selection of sandwiches and scones, and a holiday pastry with a hot drink, or the Royal Christmas tea served with an extra glass of champagne.
As for the Salon Proust, you are expected from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Ritz teams expects you in a library decorum packed with books by Proust, the master of the place, and lots of cakes, biscuits, brioches and tartlets deliciously placed on the beautiful central table. With the magnificent Holidays decorations, the table seems like it comes straight from a dream.
On the menu at the Salon Proust, an indulging French style tea including a lovely selection of Holidays biscuits served with a hot drink for €68. The Indulging Christmas tea for €83 comes with a pastry from the Bar Vendôme selection and the Royal version for €88 comes with Champagne, and the Imeperial adds the Christmas tea with a pastry from the Bar.
And did you know? If the Ritz Paris is that attached to Marcel Proust it is that the novelist was present for the official opening of the palace in 1898 and even chose to live there. He used to welcome friends for literary salons. It was obvious that Marcel Proust would be the protector of the French style teatime of the new Ritz.
For those who are not familiar with the “Proust’s madeleine” saying, it comes from the book “In Search of Lost Time” volume one “Swann’s Way”, he wrote: “And soon, mechanically, weary after a dull day with the prospect of a depressing morrow, I raised to my lips a spoonful of the tea in which I had soaked a morsel of the cake. No sooner had the warm liquid, and the crumbs with it, touched my palate than a shudder ran through my whole body, and I stopped, intent upon the extraordinary changes that were taking place. An exquisite pleasure had invaded my senses, but individual, detached, with no suggestion of its origin. And at once the vicissitudes of life had become indifferent to me, its disasters innocuous, its brevity illusory […]”
François Perret wants us to remember these childhood memories thanks to a teatime that will make us forget about our time and era.
