The ghost of Jean-Jacques Rousseau needs a hand: his manuscript has been stolen, and he’s keeping visitors at the museum until someone finds it. On October 31, 2026, this tale launches a free escape game in Montmorency, available to families with kids aged 6 and up.
Before the game begins, participants discover the writer’s house on a guided tour. The investigation thus unfolds in a real place where Rousseau lived and worked. The philosopher settled in Petit Mont-Louis in December 1757 and remained there until 1762.
This house is tied to the creation of several of his landmark works, including Julie or the New Heloise, The Social Contract, and Emile, or On Education. The museum tour brings his daily life to life, from his bedroom to his study. For Halloween, this literary heritage becomes the backdrop for an imaginary mission centered on a missing document.
Organized with the Rachel Félix Cultural Center's game library, the activity invites visitors to move from exploring the house to hunting for the manuscript. Witches, vampires and other monsters can join the investigation: attendees are welcome to come in costume.
The activity is free for ages 6 and up, with sessions running from 12:30 PM to 6 PM. Reservations are required at 01 39 64 80 13 or by rousseau-museum@ville-montmorency.fr. The museum is located at 5 Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Montmorency.
