Halloween is taking over Fortnite once again. Epic Games launches Fortnitemares 2026 from October 1 to November 1, 2026, as a creeping corruption spreads through Battle Royale, Horde Rush, and Reload. This new edition brings back several mechanics tied to the event, but also adds new locations, weapons, and a long line of collaborations with horror and pop-culture licenses. Five Nights at Freddy’s, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Hazbin Hotel, Beetlejuice, or Predator: Badlands are among the highlights of the lineup.
The trailer showcases an island gradually taken over by a darker mood and several new foes. Players can, in particular, join Freaky Fields or the new point of interest Nightmare Neighborhood, where Freddy Krueger awaits.
The infamous Freddy isn’t content to show up merely in disguise. He also becomes a formidable foe to beat: defeating him unlocks Freddy’s Nightmare, a skill that lets you teleport right beside an enemy before closing in with a melee strike.
This edition once again teams up with a string of collaborations. The first outfits inspired by Five Nights at Freddy’s are available in the shop and they reveal damage as the battles unfold.
More characters will roll out gradually over the month. Epic Games confirms content drawn from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Black Clover, Hollow Knight, 99 Nights in the Forest, Hazbin Hotel, The Purge, Obsession, Slender Man, Beetlejuice, Predator: Badlands and Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. The releases will be spaced out throughout October rather than dropping all at once.
The battlefield is evolving too, with a season-specific arsenal tailored for the occasion. The new Bonerattler SMG can reveal enemy positions, while several familiar weapons are making a comeback.
The Wood Stake Shotgun, originally conceived to fend off supernatural creatures, and the classic Pumpkin Launcher are back. The latter stays true to its rocket-launcher concept, hurling explosive pumpkins, and has become one of Fortnitemares’ recurring items.
Fortnitemares 2026 isn't just about cosmetic items. Players can activate Overrides in the form of cursed cartridges that temporarily alter certain rules.
Depending on the effect you unlock, you can, for example, turn invisible for a sprint, boost your damage when your health is low, or transform your squad into Halloween props to help you stay hidden.
The animatronics from Five Nights at Freddy’s also show up directly in the action as boss characters. Once you defeat one, you can take control of it to roam the map in a form that’s very different from your usual character.
The limited-time Horde Rush mode is back. As in its previous appearances, players must band together to withstand wave after wave of enemies while advancing through the match.
On October 8, 2026, the event will also gain Reload with a new version of Nitemare Island. It will join the Stranger Things and Squid Grounds maps, expanding the space for seasonal content in this mode.
Fortnitemares remains one of Fortnite’s marquee seasonal events, with the 2026 edition opting to spread its new content over several weeks. New outfits and collaborations are planned throughout the month, and the lineup will keep evolving as Halloween approaches.
