The Giacometti Institute invites Parisians and residents of Île-de-France to explore its spaces during guided tours on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026, for the 43rd edition of Heritage Days.

Art lovers, and Giacometti fans in particular, will gather at the Giacometti Institute - Paul Follot Townhouse for the 43rd edition of the Heritage Days, on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026. A perfect excuse to get out and discover the world of an artist who continues to fascinate today.

The Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) are the perfect opportunity to take advantage of a wide range of fascinating cultural events in the four corners of the Île-de-France region! If you're an art lover, the Institut Giacometti could well be the stop-off you're looking for.

It is a veritable reference point for the work of the sculptor, dedicated to exhibitions of his work, as well as to artistic research and teaching. The establishment is located in the 14th arrondissement, in the Montparnasse district, where Giacometti lived and worked throughout his prolific career! You can even take a look at the artist's studio, reconstructed within the institute.

Discovering the Giacometti Institute

The Giacometti Foundation safeguards the World’s most extensive collection of Alberto Giacometti’s works. It preserves, restores and enriches this exceptional artistic heritage, reinforced by a substantial archive, photography fund, and a reference library. Opened in 2018 in Paris’s 14th arrondissement, the Giacometti Institute stands as the premier hub dedicated to the artist. Housed in the former Art Deco townhouse of Paul Follot, fully restored, it offers over 350 square meters of exhibitions, research and education activities. It also hosts lectures, professional meetings, private events, and receptions in a setting of remarkable patrimony.

The exhibition “Giacometti surrealist. Objects as sculptures,” staged this summer at the Institut Giacometti, offers a distinctive look at Giacometti’s surrealist period, spanning 1929 to 1935.

While the surrealist works by the artist are well known today, it is less widely recognized that he also dabbled in decorative art objects—lighting fixtures, andirons, or vases—for Jean-Michel Frank, the renowned Parisian decorator. Long treated as separate, these two practices are laid side by side here. The show reveals how closely they intertwine and enrich one another—in form, in themes, and even in the very principles that guided their design.

Architectural Tour
The Giacometti Institute is housed in the former workshop of designer Paul Follot, a grand private townhouse designated for its Art Nouveau and Art Deco heritage. On this visit, guided by a mediator, discover this unique building and its interiors, preserved in their original arrangement.

Creative workshop
Throughout the year, the Giacometti Institute offers family workshops, artist-led creation residencies for enthusiasts, a cycle on art history, and a series of talks.

The workshops and residencies are led by artists, creators and educators. Their main aim is to foster personal growth through the creative act, and in doing so to reveal what inspired Giacometti in the making of his work.
