On the occasion of the 42nd Heritage Days, the Théâtre Montansier, an 18th-century treasure located in Versailles, welcomes you for guided tours on Saturday, September 20, 2025. Find out more about the program.

How about visiting a theater for the Journées du Patrimoine? For the 42nd edition of the event, the Théâtre Montansier in Versailles is offering a guided tour of 17th-century theater-going behavior on Saturday, September 20, 2025. The theater was listed as a historic monument in 1991, and invites you to discover its history free of charge.

This Italian-style theater, built by Jean-François Heurtier in the 18th century, has been welcoming spectators and actors since its inauguration in 1777, in the presence of Louis XVI and his wife, Queen Marie-Antoinette. It was the brainchild of Marguerite Brunet, one of history's first female entrepreneurs, known as "La Montansier".

With the guided tours of this Heritage Days event, you'll be able to go backstage at the Théâtre Montansier, and admire the original paintings and decorations that adorn the building's interiors, restored on several occasions and now in perfect condition. Many other theaters and performing arts venues are opening their doors to us this Heritage Weekend: check out our guides to find the outings that interest you most!
