Attention to all culture enthusiasts! Here's a must-attend event in September. The Heritage Days is a European celebration during which museums, monuments, castles, as well as private venues and major institutions open their doors exceptionally to offer us mostly free visits, some truly unconventional and even never seen before. It's clear: this is a must-see event, and of course both Paris and Île-de-France are ready to welcome you for this edition. This event invites us to rediscover our heritage in a new light, and it’s happening this year from September 20-21, 2025.
But did you know? The Heritage Days also offer a rare chance to explore places usually off-limits to the public. Each year, exceptional openings surprise visitors across the Paris region. From renowned institutions to lesser-known sites, these unique visits simply cannot be missed—right?
If you’re passionate about the media world or architecture, here’s a plan not to miss: the special open day at the offices of Le Monde. As one of the leading media outlets in France, it’s an essential stop! This newspaper, founded in 1944 by Hubert Beuve-Méry, invites you behind the scenes of its editorial office.
Next stop: the 13th arrondissement of Paris. On September 20-21, 2025, discover a striking building overlooking the tracks of Gare d'Austerlitz, designed by Snohetta, an international architecture firm. This structure stands out with its High Environmental Quality (HQE) certification and features a facade made of 20,000 glass panels—impressive, isn’t it?
Inaugurated six years ago, the Groupe Le Monde headquarters, designed by the Snøhetta agency, has become the architectural signature that marks the entrance to the Paris Left Bank district. The building is only open to visitors once a year, on the weekend of the Festival and Heritage Days. In small groups, guided by in-house journalists, a representative of the management team or the Snøhetta agency, you'll stop off at several of the daily paper's emblematic locations: the offices, the editorial conference room, the terrace and, as a highlight, the office of Hubert Beuve-Méry, the paper's founder exactly eighty-one years ago.
