European Heritage Days 2026: discover the prestigious Lycée Janson-de-Sailly in Paris

With the return of Heritage Days, the weekend of September 19–20, 2026, many sites will open their doors to the public for this special occasion. Among them is Janson-de-Sailly High School, in the 16th arrondissement, renowned for its preparatory courses for the grandes écoles.

And what if, for these Heritage Days 2026, we set off to conquer the Journées du Patrimoine 2026, the great Parisian high schools?

Saturday the 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026, the season’s must-attend cultural event opens the doors to places never before opened to the public, accessible for visits on this single weekend.

So it’s an opportunity to discover and rediscover the capital’s most beautiful monuments historiques, the churches that are tucked away there, the seat of power, some parks or gardens, but also, prestigious educational institutions.

In the 16th arrondissement, just a stone’s throw from the Rue de la Pompe metro station, the lycée Janson-de-Sailly is one of France’s largest school campuses. With nearly 4,000 students, not to mention several hundred teachers, the complex is vast, spanning more than 36,500 m² in total.

Transformed into a hospital during World War I and a cradle of student resistance in World War II, the Janson-de-Sailly High School boasts an exceptionally rich history. The good news is that you can explore it on an exclusive guided tour during these Heritage Days 2026: mark it on your calendar!

Let our History teachers and our History of Art students guide you on a unique, over-two-hours stroll through the institution's heritage rooms.

The tour will also open the doors to our biology (SVT) and physics laboratories. At the end of the journey, it’s time to get hands-on: our science teachers will deliver astonishing demonstrations, using vintage physics apparatus.
