In Paris and throughout theÎle-de-France region, the Journées du Patrimoine are a not-to-be-missed event. During this exceptional weekend, our most beautiful treasures open their doors to us, sometimes in unprecedented ways, to let us enjoy a special program, often free of charge.
From then on, museums, monuments, but also major institutions and private venues, are game and invite us to enjoy self-guided or guided tours, activities for all ages, and quirky experiences that promise something new. As you might expect, given the rich heritage Paris and its region boast, the weekend is set to be ultra-energized during this 42nd edition arriving on September 19 and 20, 2026.
Among the surprising venues taking part in the Heritage Days, hospitals are among them. These places are full of remarkable treasures, spanning historical, artistic, and scientific value. To prove it, we head this time to the 14th arrondissement, to the Centre Hospitalier Sainte-Anne, a institution long renowned for its specialty in psychiatry, neuroscience, and addictionology. There you’ll also find the MAHHSA, the Museum of Art and History of the Sainte-Anne Hospital, whose collections reveal works by patients from various hospitals.
Screening of the film "The Magic Mirror of Aloïse" followed by a roundtable discussion organized by Anne-Marie Dubois.
On the sidelines of the exhibition Masterpieces. At the Heart of the Sainte-Anne Collection, shown at the Museum of Art and History of the Sainte-Anne Hospital, a screening of Aloïse Corbaz's The Magic Mirror, directed by Florian Campiche in 1967 (24 minutes), is being presented in partnership with the Center for Film on Art in Brussels.
Film summary: A portrait of Aloïse Corbaz, one of the key figures of outsider art. Shot a few years before her death in the psychiatric hospital where she was housed, this documentary shows her at work.
The screening will be followed by a round-table discussion led by Anne-Marie Dubois, scientific head of the MAHHSA, which will reassess the film’s psychiatric discourse in light of today’s concerns.
