One of the most prestigious places to visit this year is the Maison de l'Amérique latine, which will be opening its doors on Sunday, September 21, in the heart of Paris' 7th arrondissement. Created in 1946 in the spirit of dialogue between France and the Latin American nations, under the impetus of General de Gaulle, the Maison de l'Amérique Latine occupies two emblematic private mansions: the Hôtel de Varengeville (1704) and the Hôtel Amelot de Gournay (1712), both linked by majestic salons opening onto French-style gardens. A major diplomatic center, it regularly welcomes the region's ambassadors, organizes high-profile cultural events and supports economic exchanges. The Salon des Ambassadeurs, a listed historic monument, is one of the wonders to be discovered.

Founded in 1946 on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at the instigation of General de Gaulle, the Maison de l'Amérique latine aims to promote exchanges between France and Latin American countries.

It is housed in two 18th-century Parisian mansions:

    - the Hôtel de Varengeville (Jacques Gabriel, 1704)

    - and the Hôtel Amelot de Gournay (Germain Boffrand, 1712),

both owned by the Banque de France, and now leased by La Maison. The two buildings are linked on the first floor by a series of salons opening onto formal gardens.

A rare architectural feature in Paris is the oval courtyard shared with the Paraguayan Embassy.

Among its illustrious occupants was Professor Charcot, the famous neurologist who acquired the Hôtel de Varengeville in 1884. Great literary figures such as Hugo, Daudet and the Goncourts were also received here. The hotel was sold to the Banque de France in 1964.

Today, the Maison de l'Amérique latine is a place of art, history and culture, hosting numerous cultural and intellectual events open to all.

It is equipped with the infrastructures needed to organize high-quality events and receptions, which help finance its operations.

For the European Heritage Days, the Maison de l'Amérique latine is exceptionally opening to the public the areas usually reserved for private parties.
