Every autumn, the Journées du Patrimoine, a not-to-be-missed cultural event, celebrates the architectural and historical wealth of our region. In Paris and beyond, they invite you to explore, free of charge, places that are often closed to the public: museums, private mansions, theatrical backstage areas or secret workshops. This year, the 42ᵉ edition takes place on September 20 and 21, 2025, with the theme "the heritage of itineraries, networks and connections". In Aubervilliers, things are lively: guided tours, exhibitions, escape games, children's workshops, concerts and readings await you at sites from yesterday and today.
The Fort d'Aubervilliers, a XIXᵉ century military relic built between 1843 and 1849 to defend the capital, perfectly embodies this link between past and present. This summer, the Archives municipales are offering the exhibition Temps forts - Histoire d'un site, from September 17 to October 17, with free and guided tours, video workshops and workshops, to immerse visitors in its 150 years of history: from military fort to Zingaro equestrian theater, via the German occupation of 1870 or the manufacture of gas during the First World War .
A photo exhibition exploring the origins of hip-hop in Seine-Saint-Denis.
Just over 40 years ago, the Fort d'Aubervilliers was the scene of the first major intercity smurf and breakdance challenge. The event was conceived by Claude Kiavué (alias Jimmy) as part of the major cultural program of the Banlieue 89 mission, which aimed to occupy the forts of the Paris region during the summer. Due to its scale and innovative character, the event is identified as the first hip-hop festival in France, and has left its mark on a whole generation of artists.
Thanks to the holdings of photographer Willy Vainqueur, who took several snapshots of the festival in 1984, the exhibition reconstructs the event, giving the public a glimpse of the beginnings of this culture in France. Throughout his career, Willy Vainqueur has followed and photographed the emergence and development of the hip-hop movement in the Seine-Saint-Denis region.
The exhibition presents the event in its historical and geographical context, linking the emergence and spread of hip-hop in the area with the major urban transformations of the time.
An initiative of the Département de la Seine-Saint-Denis and Ville des Musiques du Monde.
An exhibition designed by the cultural heritage department of the Département de la Seine-Saint-Denis.
