If you've never been inside theHôtel de Ville de Paris, then take advantage of the Journées du Patrimoine 2025 to do so. Although the building only dates back to 1882, it's a jewel of Parisian heritage, classified as a historic monument and located right in the heart of the capital.
TheHôtel de Ville de Paris had to be rebuilt after a fire in 1871. Architects Théodore Ballu and Deperthes achieved the feat of reproducing the old Hôtel de Ville in less than ten years, with major improvements. TheHôtel de Ville de Paris became the most modern public building of its time. It was connected to electricity and the telephone, and equipped with central heating and elevators.
Every year in September, theHôtel de Ville de Paris takes part in the European Heritage Days. On September 20 and 21, 2025, you'll have the opportunity to enter this key Parisian landmark and learn more about the building.
Take a stroll through the richly decorated reception rooms of the Hôtel de Ville, as well as the famous Paris Council chamber and the office of the Mayor of Paris. Admire the architecture, furniture and works of art, such as the model of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle! And don't miss the heritage library, the salons d'apparat, not forgetting the Paris Rendez-Vous boutique.

Parisian heritage will be at the heart of this visit.
In the salons, the public will be able to meet curators, restorers and historians from the City of Paris to discuss their professions and their daily missions in the service of Parisian heritage.
Alongside them will be the craftsmen who work to maintain the Hôtel de Ville: florists, locksmiths, upholsterers, watchmakers, veneers, polishers and more.
Visitors will also be able to discover "Le village des métiers", set up in the Cour de la Maire, where they can meet the archaeologists of the City of Paris, who will be on hand alongside stonemasons, marble masons, ornamental sculptors, cabinetmakers and carpenters.
Each trade will be offering demonstrations to showcase their profession and the skills that have been passed down from generation to generation.
Throughout the visit, several exhibitions will be on display: one devoted to Parisian heritage, and another retracing the history of the Hôtel de Ville.
The public will be invited to discover the collections of Paris's 10 heritage and specialized libraries. The Archives de Paris will also be present, offering visitors the chance to discover the work of Victor Baltard, whose 220th birthday is being celebrated in 2025.
As every year, there will be an exhibition dedicated to women theater directors, not forgetting the presence of the HF Ile de France association.
The public will also be invited to discover the theatrical performance of Rosa, de chez Nicolas Flamel, by Jean- Marie Lehec.
And last but not least, as Paris is a sponsor city, the model of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle will be on display, as it is every year.
Mediators from the École du Louvre will be on hand to comment on the decor and paintings.
In addition, visitors with disabilities will be welcomed with personalized assistance and/or the loan of a wheelchair, in collaboration with trained volunteers from the Action Passeraile association.
