The Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days ) are held on the third weekend of September, and every year they give us the chance to visit incredible places, famous or forgotten, popular or usually inaccessible.
This cultural event marks its 43rd edition, on September 19 and 20, 2026. For the occasion, across Paris and in Île-de-France, thousands of artistic, historical, religious, political, or simply offbeat sites throw open their doors. And more often than not, it’s free! Whether you’re passionate about sport, fashion, trains, gastronomy, art, the military or the judiciary, history or cinema, you’re sure to find a place to visit during this festive and popular weekend.
Big events like this require a bit of planning ahead... if only to make sure the place you want to visit is actually open. Indeed, several participating sites open their doors for just one day over the weekend. If you want to stroll with peace of mind, here is a selection of places that are only open on Sunday, September 20, 2026.
