Do you dream of having a fur ball at home? A cat that snuggles up to you as you fall asleep? A dog that runs alongside you while you jog? Or even a new pet? The animal that will be sharing your home and your life tomorrow may be at the SPA. On Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 October 2025, the Société Protectrice des Animaux will be opening the doors of its 62 shelters and Maisons SPA throughout France for the return of its"Open House" days to encourage responsible adoption.
During this new"Open House" weekend, some 7,000 animals (dogs, cats and new pets) are waiting to be adopted .
As the SPA points out in a press release published on September 22, this new Open House will have a"special dimension, as it marks the start of the celebrations for the association's 180th anniversary". 180 years marked by"unforgettable encounters between its residents, their adopters and its dedicated teams". So, for this year's Open House, the SPA is paying tribute to these wonderful stories with a collection of fables created especially for the occasion.
Moreover, as the SPA points out, last summer was particularly difficult,"marked by the intake of 7,628 animals in just two months".
These two new "Open Days" are an opportunity to meet the animals up for adoption, as well as the team of volunteers and staff, and the youth club. And don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have: how to become a volunteer, foster, adopt, help, donate...
In addition, the conditions for adopting an animal have changed since October 2022. " The future adopter must now complete and sign a certificate of commitment at least seven days before going to the shelter and adopting an animal," reminds the SPA, which specifies that he or she must therefore present it to the shelter on the day of adoption.
