Air France group is now planning to repay or provide a voucher to customers whose flights have been cancelled because of the coronavirus epidemic, for cancellations effective from May 15th.

Air France is updating their repayment policy. This Friday May 15th, the Air France-KLM group has announced in a release that all customers whose flights have been cancelled over the health crisis or the coronavirus epidemic will be able to choose between simple repayment or a voucher with a 15% bonus on the initial value of the ticket. After announcing to check passengers’ temperature or providing facemasks, this is a new adjustment caused by the pandemic.

In the press release, the national airline says this is the “recent developments on the global sanitary situation and the gradual lifting of quarantine measures” allowed to give “more clarity the evolution of the flight schedule for the near future.” So far, Air France only offered a voucher to customers holding tickets for flights cancelled.

Thus, “Air France and KLM have decided to adjust their refund policy for flight cancellations taking place on 15th May”. Moreover, the release warns that “it may take longer to process these transactions” mainly because of “the magnitude of this crisis and the number of cancellations”. In other words, if you expect to be repaid in a few days, you will have to be patient.

Consumer associations such as UFC-Que Choisir gave 57 airlines notice in order to apply the European regulations that demand to allow cancelled ticket holders to be repaid. Other airlines such as Lufthansa, Emirates and EasyJet are aimed by the complaint and will have to change their commercial policy.
