Crowded train carriages, jammed metro platforms and bus stops, or widespread delays… Taking the public transport in Paris and Île-de-France is often a source of stress for many commuters. Not to mention the numerous works that disrupt train traffic. This summer, Île-de-France residents who rely on public transport are not spared.
During this summer period, several construction sites are taking place underground to prepare for the arrival of the next-generation metro, the MF19, as well as to carry out station renovations and to renew rails and overhead lines.
What does this mean for riders? They must adapt to a series of traffic disruptions, partial or total, on weekends, during the week, day or night. Some stations will not be served for months. This is the case for the République station on la ligne 8 of the metro. Highly used by commuters, this station is due for renovation and will be closed for nine consecutive months, more precisely between July 22, 2026 and April 22, 2027. Note that République station will be inaccessible only on the line 8. On the other metro lines serving République, namely lines 3, 5, 9 and 11, trains will still stop at this station.
However, on the Line 8 of the metro, travelers will have to adapt during the next nine months of construction and seek alternative routes or alight at the stations before or after.
Meanwhile, on the same Line 8 of the metro, service will be suspended between Balard and Concorde from August 20 to 27, 2026, inclusive. The goal? To carry out upgrade work to accommodate the MF19 trains.
