In the coming months, RATP and SNCF will launch new maintenance and upgrade projects across the Paris metro, RER, and Transilien networks. The goal? "To regenerate and expand the network, ensuring its modernization by 2030." This is the pledge made by Île-de-France Mobilités on their website. Major works are planned on the RER A and RER B lines, as well as on métro lines 8, 12, and 13.
The Line 4 will also be impacted by these upcoming works. Seven stations on this Paris metro line will be closed for a consecutive 12-day period in spring 2026, due to what’s described as a "track equipment upgrade." Specifically, service will be suspended from April 20 to May 1, 2026, inclusive, between Barbès-Rochechouart and Châtelet.
Additionally, Gare du Nord, Gare de l'Est, Château d'Eau, Strasbourg - Saint-Denis, Réaumur - Sébastopol, Étienne Marcel, and Les Halles stations will be temporarily inaccessible on line 4 throughout the duration of these works. Châtelet will serve as the new terminus for travelers coming from Bagneux. Conversely, Barbès-Rochechouart will be the provisional endpoint for those arriving from Clignancourt. During this period, commuters will need to adjust their routes and seek alternative travel options. Additionally, the RATP is increasing service on bus lines N° 31, 38, 39, 54, 56, and 85 to help ease the disruption.
It should be noted that line 4 is one of the busiest metro lines in Paris. It serves Gare du Nord, Châtelet, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Montparnasse, and Denfert-Rochereau, among other stations.
