The heatwave in Île-de-France is not sparing the region’s major cultural and tourist sites. As temperatures run well above seasonal norms, several institutions are taking exceptional measures to safeguard visitors’ comfort, staff safety, and, in some cases, the preservation of historic buildings.
Early closures, exhibition closures, shortened hours or temporary suspension of certain activities, the Île-de-France heritage sites and tourist venues are adapting to this unusually intense spell of weather.
Among the affected sites, the Louvre Museum announced an early closing at 4 p.m. from June 24 to 27. The Eiffel Tower has also shortened its hours, while the Arc de Triomphe is adjusting its public access as well. The Chapelle expiatoire, this little-known monument tucked behind Saint-Lazare station, is among the sites affected by the heat. Likewise, the Palais de Tokyo has announced a temporary shutdown of exhibitions through June 26, and Disneyland Paris is adjusting the operation of several attractions. The situation underscores the growing challenges cultural venues face as extreme heat events become more frequent.
At the Château de Fontainebleau, some rooms may be closed and leisure activities suspended. Make sure to check before you travel.
