A new tenant is moving into the Panthéon. The home of great women and men welcomes Marc Bloch from June 23, 2026. On this occasion, to celebrate and honor this French historian and member of the resistance, the Panthéon will be free to all from June 25 to 28, 2026.
Marc Bloch was born in 1886 in Lyon. He served in World War I and received several honors, including the Legion of Honor, for his wartime service. After the war, he taught at the university and wrote several specialized history books. When World War II broke out, he immediately volunteered to fight. In 1940, because he was Jewish, Marc Bloch was dismissed from the civil service and his apartment was requisitioned.
He joined the Resistance in 1943. He was arrested by the Gestapo in the spring of 1944, imprisoned, and executed in June 1944. More than 80 years after his death, Marc Bloch is inducted into the Panthéon, earning the Republic’s honours.
To mark this arrival, the Panthéon is therefore exceptionally free for everyone for a few days. Visitors can explore this symbol of France and get to know its illustrious inhabitants. It is also an opportunity to discover the temporary exhibition dedicated to Marc Bloch, running from June 25 to January 10, 2027.
