Due to a new episode of ozone pollution, the City of Paris extends free residential parking for Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

Due to a persistent ozone pollution episode, residential parking remains free in Paris on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. According to the City of Paris, Airparif expects an exceedance of the information-and-recommendation threshold for ozone concentration on that day.

In line with the measures announced by the Paris authorities in the event of an air pollution peak, the City of Paris is extending the free residential parking that was introduced on June 18 for the day of Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The aim is to encourage residents to cut back on car use and to favor public transport, carpooling, cycling, or walking.

This free access comes as the Police Prefecture also urges people to cut back on car trips, work from home when possible, and opt for the lowest-emission modes of transport.

Who is eligible for free residential parking?

This free parking applies only to residential parking. It applies on the mixed-use streets in the four zones surrounding the home of the motorist who benefits from Parisian residential parking.

The City of Paris also states that if a pollution peak is declared after you subscribe to a weekly pass, the pass’s validity is extended by the number of free days officially announced.

Recommendations for dealing with the pollution episode

Authorities are urging a reduction in private car use, to prioritise public transport, carpooling, and cycling, and, where possible, remote work.

Motorists must also adhere to the newly reduced speed limits in Île-de-France:

  • 110 km/h on motorway sections where the limit is normally 130 km/h;
  • 90 km/h on motorway and expressway sections normally capped at 110 km/h;
  • 70 km/h on motorway and expressway sections normally limited to 90 km/h, as well as on national and departmental roads with speed limits of 80 or 90 km/h.

Why is this measure being implemented?

The free residential parking is one of the measures activated during air-pollution episodes. It aims to encourage residents to leave their cars parked and to switch to less polluting modes of transport.

The information and advisory procedure is activated when pollutant levels exceed thresholds that could affect health, particularly for people who are sensitive or vulnerable.
