Because of a lingering ozone pollution episode, resident parking remains free in Paris until Tuesday, June 23, 2026. According to the City of Paris, Airparif expects the information and recommendation threshold for ozone concentration to be exceeded.
In line with the measures outlined by the Paris authorities in the event of an air pollution spike, the City of Paris is extending the residential parking allowance free until June 23, 2026. The aim is to encourage residents to curb their car use and to favor public transport, carpooling, cycling, or walking.
This free access comes as the Police Prefecture also urges people to cut back on car trips, work from home when possible, and opt for the lowest-emission modes of transport.
This free parking applies only to residential parking. It applies on the mixed-use streets in the four zones surrounding the home of the motorist who benefits from Parisian residential parking.
The City of Paris also states that if a pollution peak is declared after you subscribe to a weekly pass, the pass’s validity is extended by the number of free days officially announced.
Authorities are urging a reduction in private car use, to prioritise public transport, carpooling, and cycling, and, where possible, remote work.
Motorists must also adhere to the newly reduced speed limits in Île-de-France:
The free residential parking is one of the measures activated during air-pollution episodes. It aims to encourage residents to leave their cars parked and to switch to less polluting modes of transport.
The information and advisory procedure is activated when pollutant levels exceed thresholds that could affect health, particularly for people who are sensitive or vulnerable.
