Due to the persistence of the ozone pollution episode, differentiated traffic measures are in force in Île-de-France on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 5:30 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

Île-de-France remains affected by a persistent episode of ozone pollution. After an initial day dominated by information and guidance, the Police Prefecture announces the introduction of restrictive measures, including differentiated traffic, starting Friday, June 19, 2026.

According to Airparif, the information and advisory threshold for ozone, set at 180 µg/m³, is expected to be exceeded again this Friday. The forecast heatwave and bright sunshine are driving up ozone concentrations, with an episode likely to persist for several days.

Differentiated traffic rules in Île-de-France: who can drive this Friday, June 19?

Starting Friday, June 19, 2026, and until the measures are lifted, differentiated traffic rules will apply daily from 5:30 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. inside the perimeter defined by the A86, excluding the A86 itself.

In practice, only vehicles bearing a Crit’Air vignette in class 0, 1 or 2 are allowed to circulate within this perimeter. Vehicles Crit’Air 3, 4, 5 and those without a classification cannot circulate, unless a derogation provided by the current prefectural decree applies.

What are the speed limits in Île-de-France?

The Police Prefecture has also announced a reduction in the allowable maximum speed across the entire region:

  • 110 km/h on motorway sections normally limited to 130 km/h;
  • 90 km/h on motorway and expressway sections normally limited to 110 km/h;
  • 70 km/h on motorway and expressway sections normally limited to 90 km/h, as well as on national and departmental roads limited to 80 or 90 km/h.

Transit vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating over 3.5 tonnes are also required to bypass the Paris metropolitan area via the Francilienne ring road.

The €5.10 anti-pollution pass activated in Île-de-France from June 19 to 21, 2026

To encourage Île-de-France residents to leave their cars at home, Île-de-France Mobilités is activating the 5.10 € anti-pollution pass for Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21, 2026. This daily ticket allows unlimited travel across the entire Île-de-France network—metro, RER, bus, tram, and Transilien—from 00:00 to 23:59.

Note that the pass must be renewed daily: a ticket priced at €5.10 does not cover the entire activation period. It can be loaded onto a Navigo Easy pass, onto a smartphone via transport apps, or purchased at the counters and ticket machines at RATP and SNCF stations.

Pollution controls and other measures

Controls must be put in place to ensure these measures are followed. The Police Prefecture also unveiled several supplementary measures, notably the ban on open-air burning, the postponement of maintenance or cleaning work that emits volatile organic compounds such as solvents, varnishes, glues, or paints, and specific provisions for certain industrial sectors.

The use of generators used for testing or maintenance of equipment is also prohibited during this episode, and brush-clearing or burning of green waste operations are suspended.

What recommendations for Île-de-France residents?

The Prefecture of Police urges people to limit car travel as much as possible, to favor teleworking, and, when necessary, to practice carpooling. Île-de-France residents are also asked to limit their exposure to pollution, especially the most vulnerable, by staying indoors during the hottest hours.

The ozone can irritate the eyes, trigger coughing and cause breathing problems, particularly among children, asthmatics and the most vulnerable. This episode comes as Paris faces an orange heatwave alert, which underscores the call for caution.

To monitor developments, official updates are available on the websites of the Prefecture of Police, the ARS Île-de-France, and Airparif.
