The Câble C1 takes a pause this Tuesday, June 9, 2026. The first Île-de-France cable car, which has been connecting the Val-de-Marne to daily life since its inauguration in December 2025, will be partially shut down around midday to allow the Paris Fire Brigade to carry out an evacuation drill on the line. A first for this still-new mode of transport.
According to what Île-de-France Mobilités shared on X, there will be a service disruption from 10:00 to 15:00 between Limeil-Brévannes and Villa Nova. For five hours, regular commuters will need to turn to alternative options. A replacement bus service will run to maintain the connection, and routes 430 and 427 will also stop at several cable-car stations. Note that the cable car itself will continue operating normally between Limeil-Brévannes and Pointe du Lac Metro, with the southern section of the line not affected by the operation.
This kind of drill, never before performed since the line opened, is part of the safety obligations that govern the new transport system. The firefighters are testing intervention procedures specific to a cable car, a mode of transport whose technical constraints are very different from those of a bus or a metro. It’s easy to imagine the exercise drawing the eye, hovering over the Val-de-Marne landscape.
For regular users, it’s also a reminder that the Câble C1 isn’t immune to planned outages. After this temporary disruption, an even longer shutdown is ahead: the entire line will be out of service from August 3 to 13, 2026 for its annual maintenance. Eleven days without the cable car for residents of Limeil-Brévannes, Valenton, and Créteil who have made it a daily part of their commutes.
Let’s put it this way: the success is clear. Inaugurated on December 13, 2025, the region’s first cable car welcomed its one-millionth rider at the end of March 2026, just a little over three months into service. The figure says a lot about the appetite of Île-de-France residents for this unconventional transport mode, which has quickly become part of the Val-de-Marne’s travel habits. Some users have even abandoned cars and buses since the line opened.
For this Tuesday, June 9, the main takeaway is that the outage remains partial and of limited duration. Five hours of disruption, a replacement bus, and the Câble C1 will resume its cabins as if nothing had happened from 3 p.m.
