It's official as of this Wednesday, July 22, 2026: Google is rolling out in France its Overview, AI-generated summaries of search results (the label in the French interface reads “Aperçu IA”), as well as a AI mode for conversational queries. Whether you're looking for a restaurant in the 10th arrondissement, the schedule of an exhibition, or weekend weather in Île-de-France, the results page you know is taking on a new look. The rollout will unfold over several days, so you may not notice anything yet.
France stood as the last major global exception. The issue stems from an old dispute between the search engine and French news publishers over neighboring rights. “There were regulatory blocks in place that we believe have now been removed,” says Sébastien Missoffe, Google France’s managing director, describing it as a major revolution for users.
The idea is laid out in just a few lines, literally. When you enter a somewhat detailed query, a box authored by Gemini appears at the top of the page, summarizing the answer with links to the sources used.
The famed blue links aren't disappearing, they're just moving down a notch. Google notes that Overview won't appear for every query, only when its systems deem it adds real value, as detailed in its official documentation.
The « AI mode » goes beyond Overview: it’s a standalone tab, designed as a chat. You ask a question, you follow up, you refine, a bit like with a traditional assistant, except the response is grounded in the search engine’s index.
Three new features are rolling out in quick succession:
Not exactly, and that's the sticking point for a portion of internet users. According to Le Monde, these features cannot be turned off.
One last option remains: the 'Web mode' tab, which displays the search engine in its old-fashioned layout, with only the links. A handy fallback to keep in your back pocket if you prefer going straight to the source rather than reading a summary.
Google's AI-powered answers are arriving, opening an unprecedented opportunity for venues and event organizers to appear directly in search results at the exact moment audiences are looking for something to do.
In this new ecosystem, being featured by a trusted source has become more strategic than ever. Through the editorial power of Sortir à Paris, its reach in 33 languages, and its strong presence in AI responses, every listed event can enjoy amplified visibility among Île-de-France residents as well as tourists.
Google, search engines and AI assistants are increasingly serving as new storefronts, complementing Sortir à Paris's direct readership. Practical information—dates, times, prices and reservations—can surface earlier in the decision-making process.
For venues, the aim isn’t just to be discovered anymore: it’s to be recommended to the right audience at the right moment. And Sortir à Paris now gives them that crucial head start.
