After the large-scale mobilization of recent demonstrations, the Paris police prefecture has banned the rally for Adama Traoré, scheduled for Saturday July 8, on the Place de la République.

Against a backdrop of riots following the death of young Nahel, thousands of people had planned to gather in Place de la République this Saturday, July 8, to pay tribute to Adama Traoré on the seven-year anniversary of his death. However, an order issued by the Paris Prefecture of Police prohibits the demonstration. The reason given was that the demonstration had been declared too late. " The fact of announcing a gathering the day before for the following day does not allow the police authority to mobilize the manpower and resources needed to secure the gathering, nor does it allow it to organize the related security arrangements ", the order reads.

The prefecture also pointed out that two other gatherings were planned at the same time and place. The Comité de soutien à la famille et aux proches d'Adama Traoré ( support committee for the family and friends of Adama Traoré) has been behind numerous strong mobilizations over the past seven years. Their aim is to shed light on the young man's death, which occurred on July 19, 2016 in Val d'Oise, after he was questioned by gendarmes.
