This Saturday, August 2, 2025, the day of the crossroads between July and August, Bison Futé forecasts a black day in the outbound direction. We take a look at the expected traffic situation in France, from August 1 to 4, and suggest routes to avoid traffic jams.

Traffic is going to be busy this weekend in France. This is due to the traditional crossroads between July and August. According to Bison Futé, traffic is likely to be very complicated on all the country's main roads from August 1 to 4, 2025, and more particularly on Saturday August 2, which the traffic forecasting organization has classified as a black day.

Bison Futé therefore recommends that, wherever possible, you postpone your travel on this day, especially if you plan to use the roads in the Rhône Valley and along the Mediterranean, which will be particularly busy in both directions.

We take a look at the traffic that awaits you from August 1 to 4, day by day.

Bison Futé forecasts for August 1 to 4, 2025 :

  • OnFriday August 1, 2025, in the outbound direction, traffic is likely to be difficult from early morning until mid-evening, depending on the sector. The main difficulties are expected on roads leading to the Atlantic coast (A11, A10, A63), the Mediterranean coast (A9, A50, A8), the Rhône valley (A7, A43) and through the Massif Central (A71 and A75). In the Île-de-France region, heavy flows are expected at the various toll plazas heading south and west. Departures will be spread over the early morning and into the night from Friday to Saturday. North-South transit to the A10 and A6 motorways will also encounter numerous traffic problems. Long journey times may be recorded on these routes.
  • On Friday August 1, 2025, inthe return direction, traffic jams are likely to be observed on the routes from the south-east quarter, mainly on the A9, A7 and A75 freeways and for access to the Mont-Blanc tunnel.
  • Saturday August 2, in the outbound direction, is classified as a black day nationwide. Travel is expected to be particularly difficult on France's main roads, from early morning until early evening. Heavy traffic is expected towards the Atlantic coast (A10, A63, A11), the Mediterranean coast (A7, A9, A61) and across the Massif Central (A75, A20). In the Île-de-France region, traffic will remain heavy overnight on part of the motorway network. In the early hours of the morning, traffic is expected to become even more difficult on the A10 and A6 freeways, as well as on the roads that converge on them, notably the A86 and A6B. This situation is likely to persist until mid-morning.
  • On Saturday August 2,inbound traffic will be very busy on the A9, A7 and A75 freeways from the Mediterranean coast, and to a lesser extent on the A10, A63 and RN165 motorways from the Atlantic coast. In the Île-de-France region, there will be some return traffic between mid-afternoon and early evening (mainly on the A10 freeway), which may cause occasional traffic problems.
  • On Sunday August 3, in the outbound direction, traffic conditions are likely to remain difficult, albeit to a lesser extent. Freeways A10 (between Poitiers and Bordeaux), A7 (between Lyon and Marseille), A9 (between Orange and Narbonne) and A75 (between Clermont-Ferrand and Bézier) will be mainly affected from late morning until late afternoon. In the Île-de-France region, traffic will still be very heavy. Difficulties could arise between early morning and early afternoon, particularly on the A6 and A10 freeways.
  • On Sunday August 3, in the return direction, congestion will be localized in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (A7, access to the Mont-Blanc tunnel and A75) and on the Mediterranean coast (A9, A54 and A8).
  • On Monday August 4, in the outbound direction, there will be heavy traffic on roads in the south-east of France, such as the A7, A8 and A9 freeways and the 85 trunk road.
  • On Monday August 4, in the inbound direction, there will be difficulties in the eastern half of France on the A7 (between Marseille and Lyon), A6 (between Lyon and Beaune), A8 and A9 freeways.
