Sand dust from the Sahara is back in France and Paris this Saturday, on what promises to be an unseasonably warm day, which may well exacerbate the effects of the temperature on our bodies.

In 2022, the capital experienced several sandstorms, in the midst of severe heatwaves that put the body to the test. At the start of this year, just as spring is making a comeback, temperatures are set to rise sharply this Saturday, April 6, 2024, with 27 degrees forecast for the capital, well above seasonal norms. This upwelling of warm air from Africa brings with it sand dust from the Sahara, and thus a pollution spike to be feared, as the arrival of this sand implies a more stifling climate and may aggravate the effects of the heat.

This early spring brings pleasant temperatures, albeit with plenty of rain. But this Saturday, April 6, 2024, temperatures will rise sharply, to 27 degrees in the Ile-de-France region, before dropping just as suddenly. [Read more]

This sand will fly over the whole country from this Saturday until Monday April 8, passing over the west and center first, before reaching the east on Sunday and Monday, driven by very hot upper-level winds from the south-west. Perhaps we'll once again have the opportunity to take some amazing shots, with a red or orange Parisian sky! If the sand comes from the same place as two years ago, it could once again contain radioactive caesium 137, as well as elements harmful to health, with a significant rise in PM10 concentrations.

As always, we strongly recommendavoiding excessive physical activity outdoors, and wearing a mask for people at risk of respiratory problems. Since 2022, these episodes have been multiplying, and are likely to become even more widespread in the future due to climate disruption.
