Centenary of Gustave Eiffel's death: what can we expect in Paris?

Throughout 2023, and starting in May, the legendary figure of Gustave Eiffel is being celebrated throughout Paris, to mark the centenary of his death. Back to the list of events and activities surrounding this anniversary.

2023 is the year of Gustave Eiffel. One hundred years after the death of the engineer behind the Tower of the same name (as well as the Statue of Liberty), this figure inseparable from the city of Paris is being celebrated from May until November. The operators of the Eiffel Tower and the engineer's descendants have joined forces to offer a wide range of activities, starting with an immersive tour of the Tower itself. Visitors will be able to discover a real-life Gustave Eiffel, recounting the stages in the Tower's construction.

From the end of March, a stamp bearing the engineer's likeness will be on sale, while this summer, an ephemeralexhibition will be set up on the Tower's forecourt. Then, in October, the program changes with a performance combining music and digital art. It will be performed in the Tower. Last but not least, to round off the centenary, Gustave Eiffel's descendants have submitted an application to have their grandfather enshrined in the French pantheon. It remains to be seen whether it will be accepted.
