There are nearly 1,400 Vélib' stations in Paris, but they aren't limited to the city itself. These self-service bikes are available in 55 municipalities across Île-de-France, with some quite a distance from the capital.

Ever wondered about this? The Vélib' bike-sharing system has stations scattered throughout Paris—just about everywhere in the city—as well as in 55 surrounding municipalities. But how far does this network actually reach? It's tricky to pinpoint the absolute furthest station from the city center since it depends on which point you consider to be the true heart of Paris. Nonetheless, two stations clearly stand out as the most distant, and interestingly, they are located on opposite ends of the spectrum.

On the east side of Île-de-France, the furthest station from Paris is number 45003. Located along Avenue du 11 Novembre 1918, it's in Champigny-sur-Marne. On the flip side, to the west of the region, station number 51008 is the most remote. You'll find it on Boulevard des Martyrs de Châteaubriant in Argenteuil. Between these two points, there's nearly 36 kilometers. That’s the maximum distance you can ride a bike between two stations.

Among the cities farthest from Paris where Vélib' stations can be found are Bondy and Choisy-le-Roi. It remains to be seen whether this will still be the case once the new Vélib' stations ' are rolled out across Île-de-France, doubling the current bike fleet.
