From October 15, 2023, the European Union will say goodbye to plastic "free flakes", banning them from a variety of products, from household goods to cosmetics. This measure aims to reduce pollution by microplastics, a first step under the REACH regulation. But rest assured, eco-responsible alternatives are on the way, to give new meaning to shine while preserving the planet!

It's time to say goodbye to glitter ... From October 15, 2023, the sale of plastic "free glitter" will be banned! This initiative concerns household and medical products, as well as toys and cosmetics. But why this sudden restriction on our favorite dose of glitter? It's the EU's response to the pollution caused by these tiny particles.

The European Commission has initiated measures to eliminate microplastics intentionally added to products, as part of the regulation on chemicals (REACH). The aim? Prevent the release of nearly half a million tonnes of microplastics into the environment, and reduce pollution by these particles by 30% by 2030. And yes, our favorite straws are the first to be affected by these strict regulations!

Theimmediate ban only applies to bulk plastic straws. So, if you're a fan of cosmetic glitter, don't panic! Retailers have a transition period of four to twelve years to adapt and continue to shine. Glitter made from inorganic materials (glass, metal, etc.) that are natural, biodegradable or water-soluble, as well as beads and sequins for sewing, are not affected.

The good news is that some brands are already planning ahead! Eco-friendly alternatives, such as biodegradable glitter made from plant-derived cellulose nanocrystals, are becoming the new trend. So, even if we say goodbye to plastic glitter, we can still shine in style, while taking care of the planet.

It's the perfect time to redefine our vision of beauty, while giving Mother Nature a helping hand. So get ready to shine more responsibly, because the future of beauty will be green and sparkling!
