A new school year is about to begin: many young adults are arriving in Paris to start or continue their studies. It's a phase that can be tough — and costly. Fortunately, several supports exist to ease this transition and lighten students. But you still need to know where to find them!
Young students can benefit from a number of grants - for housing, transport, living costs... But they don't always know where to turn for these financial windfalls. There are various forms of state aid, as well as local schemes. Better still, some of these grants can be combined with others!
The official public service site lists several forms of aid and scenarios. Mobility support for enrolling in the first year of a Master's program, or for high school students who must switch academies to continue their higher education, merit-based aid, needs-based grants, international mobility assistance, and personalized housing support... The government’s official site explains in detail which documents you need to submit to build your application and where to send it.
On its website, the Caisse d'Allocations Familiales ( CAF) offers a range of assistance and allowances. In your personal space, you can apply directly for housing benefit. Students who work or are apprentices can also apply for the prime d'activité.
The Île-de-France region also offers grants, allowances and assistance. In particular, you can obtain grants to prepare for certain training courses, access internship or work-study offers, obtain aid to buy a bicycle...
Finally, the city of Paris also helps young people with a number of schemes. These include housing assistance and one-off or annual financial aid. The capital also offers food aid, with solidarity grocery stores and food distributions. Associations and health services offer access and assistance for mental health.
To help you settle into this new life in a city that’s still unfamiliar, the state also offers two must-take options: the pass'sport and the pass Culture, two funding envelopes you can tap into for your outings and hobbies.
