Motorists in the Paris region will have to adapt once again. From Monday October 20 at 11am to Friday October 24 at 1pm, a 6-kilometer section of the A6 freeway will be completely closed to traffic in the Province-Paris direction in Essonne. This closure concerns the section between the communes of Lisses and Viry-Châtillon, and follows work carried out this summer on the same route. The DiRIF (Direction des routes d'Île-de-France), manager of the national road network in the Paris region, is overseeing this work as part of its annual maintenance program.
These pavement renovation works are a continuation of those carried out between July and August 2025 on the A6. They will make the roadway safer, reduce the risk of accidents and improve the quality and durability of the surfacing. The closure will be effective both day and night, unlike the summer works which took place only during the week.
To assist motorists during this period of disruption, DiRIF will be setting up clearly signposted detour routes. Motorists coming from the A6 freeway to Paris will be able to take the inner N104 to Les Ulis, then theA10 to Wissous, before rejoining the A6 to the capital. These detour signs will guide motorists along their alternative route.
Users are advised to consult the Sytadin application, which displays traffic conditions in real time and takes account of these closures to suggest the best routes. This application is particularly useful for anticipating traffic jams and adjusting departure times.
Weather conditions may affect the timing of this work. In the event ofadverse weather conditions, an extension is planned from Monday, October 27 at 11am to Friday, October 31 at 1pm. This flexibility will ensure the quality of the renovation work, whatever the weather conditions.
The cost of this work amounts to 3 million euros, an investment that forms part of the wider program to renovate the Paris region's road network. Every year, DiRIF renovates over 6% of the entire Paris region national road network, representing an annual maintenance and operating budget of almost 200 million euros.
This section of theA6 between Lisses and Viry-Châtillon is a strategic axis for travel in Essonne. The freeway serves numerous communities such as Corbeil-Essonnes, Évry-Courcouronnes, Grigny and Savigny-sur-Orge, facilitating commuting to Paris. Motorists are familiar with this stretch, which usually sees heavy traffic at peak times, particularly between 6 and 9:30 in the morning.
To minimize inconvenience, we advise users to adapt their departure times, to use public transport whenever possible, or to opt for teleworking during this week of work. Businesses located in the area concerned may also consider adjusting their working hours for their employees. Further information is available on the official DiRIF website.
