" Against a backdrop of violence, institutional contempt and deteriorating working conditions, we are calling for a silent but determined mobilization ": several unions and associations defending carers and patients are launching a call to demonstrate on October 4.
In a press release relayed by France Info and Sud Ouest, the caregivers announce that they are organizing a white march in Paris. Numerous unions have co-signed the call to demonstrate against the government's policies. They include unions representing hospital doctors, private practitioners, pharmacists, physiotherapists, nurses, psychiatrists, Samu-Urgences emergency physicians, etc.
We can therefore expect some disruption on October 4: several pharmacies may be closed for the day, and hospitals and care centers are likely to be understaffed...
In the official press release, the unions denounce medical deserts, the lack of hospital beds, delays in obtaining an appointment with certain specialists, the lack of financial resources in the health sector... In their view, successive governments are to blame for neglecting this important public sector.
" Health is not a budgetary adjustment variable, but a fundamental right. We are demanding that healthcare budgets be given sanctuary. We demand responses tailored to real public health needs," insist the healthcare professionals.
The demonstration is due to leave the Panthéon at 2pm for the Ministry of Health on avenue Duquesne in Paris's 7th arrondissement. The procession will then pass through the Latin Quarter, crossing Boulevard Raspail. Depending on the itinerary approved by the Préfecture de police, the demonstration could pass near the Luxembourg Gardens, the Bon Marché or the Invalides.
During this white march, demonstrators are encouraged to wear their white coats: a symbol of their profession, and a reminder that behind the coat are people who need good working conditions.
The month of October is likely to be disrupted in Paris and the rest of France: other calls for demonstrations have already been issued by various social and economic players.
