This is news bound to cause a ripple of complaints across Paris and the Île-de-France region. The Navigo pass price will once again see a rise, reaching the 90-euro mark starting January 1, 2026.
The Board of Directors of Île-de-France Mobilités, the organization responsible for managing the public transportation network in Île-de-France, has reviewed the budget for the upcoming year, including fare adjustments for commuters. Following this meeting, the council decided to approve a fare increase.
By tracking inflation rates in France, the Board of Directors can raise subscription prices based on the formula "inflation rate + 1 percentage point." In practical terms, this means the monthly Navigo pass (zones 1 to 5) would go from €88.80 to €90.80. The Imagine R fare is also set to increase, along with tickets for metro, train, and RER services.
Here’s a detailed look at the new packages set to be introduced in 2026:
IDFM's management justifies the fare increase by inflation, but also and above all by the extension and modernization of its transport services. The creation of new metro lines 15, 16, 17 and 18, the replacement of trains and buses, and the extension of certain RER and metro lines are all weighing heavily on the Ile-de-France company's budget.
In 2020, the monthly Navigo pass including zones 1 to 5 cost 75.20 euros. If it rises to 90.80 euros on January 1, public transport users will have seen their fares increase by 20.74% in just six years.
