Inaugurated in grand style at the end of 2022 inside the Ateliers Gaîté, Food Society Paris had every chance to succeed: a prime location near the Gare Montparnasse and a wealth of offerings. Yet, less than three years after opening, the site sits deserted and has announced on social media that it will close on January 1, 2026.
According to our colleagues at Actu Paris, the axe fell after the company entered a court-supervised restructuring in the summer of 2025. Despite relaunch efforts and the arrival of new corners, the business racked up substantial losses. The main hurdle appears to have been the footfall. While the food court was packed for major events or on certain weekend evenings, it struggled to attract a steady weekday clientele, despite being close to the train station and offices.
And it’s not the only one struggling in the shopping center, which has been largely emptied and now looks almost abandoned, squeezed between high rents and the competition from nearby restaurants and shops. The complex is set for a full restructuring in the coming years, with the modernization of the tour Montparnasse and its mall. For its final week, the food court is hosting several events, the last moment to enjoy its gourmet corners before the closing.
