This was a well-known spot for lovers of Japanese cuisine in Paris. Founded in 1998, Zenzan has tantalized the taste buds of fans of Japanese specialties for nearly three decades, offering everything from Chirashi and Udon to Soba, ultra-fresh sushi assortments, grilled eggplants with miso, crispy Korokke (Japanese croquettes), and a fine selection of sake. Each lunchtime, it attracted Parisians working nearby, while in the evening, it welcomed local residents, expatriates, and Japanese visitors passing through the capital, often for just a few days on business.
But here’s the scoop. After 27 years of dedicated service, Zenzan has officially closed its doors in its longtime neighborhood on Rue Brey, as of December 20, 2025. The restaurant shared the news via a message on its social media channels, explaining that the journey has come to an end due to the non-renewal of its operating permit. "It is with deep regret that we announce the closure of the restaurant on December 20. This decision comes after the owner declined to renew our license, forcing us to vacate the premises by January 31, 2026," they announced on Instagram.
But Zenzan also wants to reassure its regulars. Although its current location in the 17th arrondissement will close its doors to customers for now, the restaurant is determined to rise from the ashes in 2026. "Regarding the future, we will share all the details right here as soon as a new venue is secured. [...] We hope you’ll look forward to the new ZENZAN, which will reopen next year," the establishment announced on Instagram on December 22. So, we’re looking forward to the day we can step into the new Zenzan and once again indulge in their delicious Japanese specialties in Paris.
