Certain bookshops are truly part of the cultural landscape of Paris. Among them are those located in the Latin Quarter. These include Gibert Joseph,Shakespeare and Company, the most English-speaking café-bookshop in the capital, and Album Comics, the bookshop for comic book fans. Another address is also well known to the neighborhood's residents. Its name?Le Point du Jour.
Located at 58 Rue Gay-Lussac in Paris's 5th arrondissement, Le Point du Jour bookstore opened its doors in 1983 with a simple idea: to provide a place where people could find literature, "but also spaces conducive to encounters between those who are thinking about how to transform society and take action without waiting for the powers that be to do everything, " as Patrick Bobulesco, one of its founders, who has since become a permanent bookseller, told the ActuaLitté website.
But here's the thing. According to ActuaLitté and Actu.fr, the independent bookstore Le Point du Jour is about to closeits doors. This store, which has been located in the Latin Quarter for over 40 years, willclose permanently at the end of December 2025. The reason? Patrick Bobulesco is retiring and, at this stage, there is officially no buyer.
But first, the bookstore must clear its shelves and is organizing a big sale for the occasion. This was announced by Patrick Bobulesco to ActuaLitté. The sale is scheduled for Friday, December 12, Saturday, December 13, and Sunday, December 14, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. This event is obviously aimed at regulars, but also at those who simply want to show their support.
