As Paris Saint-Germain was due to face Stade Rennais this Sunday, August 23, 2026, on the opening day of Ligue 1, the rules have changed: the match will finally be played at Roazhon Park in Rennes.

This summer, France faced a historic drought, a wave of incendies and plusieurs canicules, breaking one heat record after another that had never been recorded on metropolitan soil. In the face of this drought, many parcs et jardins are displaying a pelouse jaune paille, a far cry from the usual green grass for this time of year in Paris. The same goes for Paris’s most athletic lawn, since the lawn of the Parc des Princes is so dry that it disrupts the schedule for the first day of Ligue 1, this Sunday 23 August 2026 at 8:45 p.m..

According to PSG’s teams, the pitch is deemed "unplayable." The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has dispatched specialists to inspect the surface, which has been declared unfit to guarantee "player safety" for the match against Rennes this Sunday. The condition is a direct result of recurring heatwaves and the historic drought that hit the Paris metropolitan area this summer. The Stade Rennais will therefore host Sunday's game on August 23.

What should you do if you had tickets to attend the match at the Parc des Princes?

Paris Saint-Germain said it would soon lay out the steps for refunds or ticket exchanges for supporters.

A solution is nonetheless being explored to allow PSG to play at home against AS Monaco on Friday, September 4.
