It's finally official: the Montparnasse Tower will begin its renovation in 2026. According to our colleagues at the Figaro, the co-owners have reached an agreement and voted to close the tallest skyscraper in the city. Starting from March 31, 2026, visitors will no longer be able to reach its summit or enter the tower. Built in the 1970s, the Montparnasse Tower shares the fate of many buildings of its era, containing asbestos, but the upcoming work primarily aims to modernize it.
Many businesses are still located there, with employees working on site who will need to vacate the premises by the end of March to make way for construction starting later this year. The Montparnasse Tower, often criticized for its appearance, is set for a dramatic transformation. The plans include the addition of a luxury hotel and an agricultural greenhouse, projecting an increase of nearly 12 meters in height and a new glass façade. The exact timeline for the renovations remains uncertain, but they are expected to take at least five years.
The adjacent CIT tower is set for a major overhaul alongside the shopping center. The plan includes creating a green public space, with new buildings such as offices, retail outlets, student housing, and leisure facilities on green rooftops, all slated for completion by 2032. This marks a significant revamp for one of the capital's key neighborhoods!
