In your opinion, which metro line sees the highest daily ridership in the Île-de-France network? Which line handles nearly 820,000 passengers each weekday? Here’s the answer!

The Line 1, which is used daily by 750,000 commuters, has been dethroned. It is no longer the most traveled metro line by public transport users in Île-de-France. So, which line has taken its place? With nearly 820,000 passengers on weekdays, the Line 14 is now the most heavily used line in the network. This is according to Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), which announced the news in a press release published on January 29, 2026.

According to a passenger traffic study conducted by the RATP in fall 2025, Line 14 has experienced a significant rise in ridership, increasing by approximately 45% compared to winter 2023-2024. Specifically, nearly 190,000 commuters now use the southern segment of this line each day.

What about the busiest stations along this southern extension? Maison Blanche sees nearly 67,000 users of Line 14 each day, while Orly Airport serves about 43,000 daily commuters. As for Saint-Denis – Pleyel, approximately 22,000 people pass through there each day. However, it’s worth noting that the major Parisian stations, such as Gare de Lyon (over 250,000 daily users), Châtelet, and Saint-Lazare, remain the most frequented stops on Line 14.

While Line 14 is especially busy on weekdays, it remains heavily used on weekends too, with 535,000 passengers on Saturday and 435,000 on Sunday.

But then, how to explain this top spot? Recall that on June 24, 2024, the Line 14 was extended both north and south, enabling passengers to travel from Orly Airport to Saint-Denis Pleyel in just 40 minutes.

But this surge in ridership is also thanks to the introduction of MP14 trains, which are described as longer—offering 33% more capacity—and more frequent, with trains arriving every 85 seconds. The result? Line 14 has seen its number of passengers grow so significantly that it has overtaken Line 1 to become the most heavily used metro line in the Île-de-France network today.

This success story for Line 14 is just getting started. Spanning 28 kilometers and often called the "spine" of the Greater Paris Express, the line will soon offer connections to lines 15, 16, 17, and 18. By 2027, an additional three MP14 trains will be added to further boost its capacity.
