At the call of the union coalition, educators across Île-de-France are set to strike regionally and march through Paris this Tuesday, February 17, 2026. The demonstration will gather at 1 p.m. in front of the Sorbonne. Explore the route of this regional protest within the Education sector.

Labor unions across the Paris region are voicing their discontent and making their voices heard. The unified education inter-union (FSU, SNUipp-FSU, Snes-FSU, SE-Unsa, FO, CFDT, CGT, and SUD) has called for a regional strike on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

Unions are calling out the allocation of resources for the 2026 back-to-school period, along with the planned staff cuts. “The layoffs in the National Education sector have just been announced: in the Paris, Créteil, and Versailles regions, regardless of changes in student demographics, the favored approach remains one of austerity,” state the regional union organizations in a joint statement. The inter-union coalition also criticizes the working conditions for staff and the learning environment for students, warning that these cuts are likely to worsen existing challenges.

Union representatives across the Paris region have strongly condemned the cuts, demanding their immediate reversal and calling for a national education budget that truly meets the needs. Particular concern is raised over schools and institutions designated as priority education zones, which are most affected by these proposed reductions.

To make their voices heard, the teachers' union coalition is calling on all education staff across Île-de-France to strike and march on February 17, 2026. A regional demonstration is scheduled for this Tuesday in Paris. Participants are asked to gather starting at 1 p.m. in front of the Sorbonne. The march will then proceed towards the Ministry of National Education, located on Rue de Grenelle in the 7th district of the city.
