Let Parisians have their say. As the capital grapples with a period of heightened social tensions, the City of Paris is organizing a meeting with residents at the Hôtel de Ville this Thursday, October 22, 2026. Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire invites attendees to share their concerns, ask questions, and engage openly on the current situation. The event is open to the public by prior registration.
This initiative comes after the sizeable mobilisations du samedi 17 octobre, organised in several French cities. Initially driven by calls against the rising cost of living and fuel prices, the protest has joined in with lycée and university students, who have been mobilised for weeks to demand better teaching conditions. In Paris, demonstrations were marked by clashes, looting and vandalism, leading to the imposition of couvre-feux in certain areas, notably around République and the Halles.
In response to the situation, Emmanuel Grégoire had urged, as early as October 19, to prioritise dialogue as well, arguing that a purely security-focused approach would not quell the tensions. This meeting at the City Hall is designed to give Parisians a chance to voice their concerns directly with their mayor, at a time when fresh mobilisations are being contemplated.
To participate in this Thursday, October 22 event, registration is required via the City of Paris official form.
