The Giant Ferris Wheel is getting ready to leave the Place de la Concorde in Paris! Whether you're young or old, Parisian or visiting, a ride on the Giant Ferris Wheel is a must before May 18, 2018.
Why? Well, simply because this will be the last time you'll be able to admire the City of Light, perched more than 70 meters high, aboard one of the 42 gondolas (including 1 equipped for the disabled) of this Ferris Wheel that takes pride of place every year on the Place de la Concorde.
Indeed, the Paris City Council wishes not to renew the lease of Marcel Campion, owner of the Ferris Wheel...
While Parisians were able to discover the Ferris Wheel for the very first time at the1900 Universal Exhibition, the current Ferris Wheel, as we all know it, has been the initiative of Marcel Campion for 23 years this year. The King of the Fairground explains:"In winter 93/94, Jacques Chirac approvedmy plan to erect a Ferris wheel on the Place de la Concorde. The idea was emulated the world over. As a result, similar wheels have sprung up in 127 cities around the world, 80 of them fixed". Since then, Paris City Hall has granted him a few months' installation time each year.
A Ferris Wheel tour offers a unique panorama of the Champs Elysées and Tuileries all the way to the Louvre that Parisians will be able to see again and again at their leisure and free of charge, but only for 3 days, from May 16 to 18, 2018, when the Parisian Ferris Wheel disappears for good!
Taking advantage of your free Ferris Wheel ride couldn't be easier! All you need to do is show up at reception with your proof of address in Paris.
And how do you install something like that? Take a look at the pictures:
