The Night of Museums is the perfect opportunity to enjoy free visits and special activities across cultural venues throughout Île-de-France. This year, the event is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026, opening the doors to museums, châteaux, monuments, and institutions for a series of captivating after-hours programs. In Seine-et-Marne, visitors can step back in time and explore the region during the prehistoric era, indulging their curiosity with a journey into France’s distant past.
The Musée départemental de la Préhistoire d'Île-de-France is sure to be a hit with enthusiasts and budding archaeologists alike. Located in Nemours, not far from the Stampian sandstone massifs that have been home to people since prehistoric times, it reveals archaeological discoveries made in the Ile-de-France region since the 19th century, the very first of which, by Edmond Doigneau, took place in the Beauregards massif (Nemours).
No fewer than 2,500 of the collection's two million objects are on display, in a thematic presentation covering periods from the Early Palaeolithic to the Second Iron Age! A Bronze Age earthenware jar found at Grisy-sur-Seine, schist bracelets dating from the Neolithic found at Échilleuses, an engraved Menhir from Maisse and even a mammoth molar recovered near Châtenay-sur-Seine... If you're interested in this goldmine, you'll be delighted with a visit to the museum.
"Living Between," Tightrope Walking on a Line
Balancing between landscape, music, heritage, and the thrill of the tightrope, the company Houle Douce explores a place, a culture, and a history. " Living Between " is an outdoor creation that turns every location into a living stage. Between sky and earth, tightrope walkers shape the space, connected by aerial lines, words, and sounds. Here, poetry emerges from reality; technique from vertigo; lightness from sharing. When the show ends, what remains is an invisible imprint: an empty space now inhabited, and an irresistible urge to return.
