And that makes 20! Nuit des Musées celebrates its 20th edition this Saturday, May 18, 2024. Every year, this cultural event comes back stronger than ever, with more participating venues, more events and more discoveries...
If you haven't yet heard of the Nuit des Musées, here's a catch-up session before the next edition. This Europe-wide event takes place every year in mid-May. Nuit des Musées gives the general public the chance to visit hundreds of museums, monuments and cultural sites for one evening. For the occasion, these venues offer special tours or events. The artistic and heritage treasures of the museums are revealed to visitors, who rediscover the cultural riches close to home. And in many cases, it's all free!
This Saturday, May 18, 2024, residents ofEtampes and the surrounding area can look forward to an exceptional cultural evening. Among the places to visit is the Théâtre Intercommunal d'Etampes. The venue usually hosts plays, dance or circus shows, concerts and many other events, featuring local or national artists.
For this year's "Nuit des Musées", the theater has planned a different kind of entertainment, accessible free of charge to all visitors. Here's the program for the evening.
2024 marks the 150th anniversary of the death of Elias Robert (Etampes, 1821 - Passy, 1874), a classic sculptor of the Second Empire, whose studio collection is at the origin of the Musée d'Etampes.
Comprising sketches, portraits and original models for the decors of Parisian monuments, this collection reveals the life and work of an artist intimately linked to the history of Etampes and Haussmann's Paris.
Presentation of the "La classe, l'œuvre!" project by the 5e SEGPA class at Collège de Guinette, Etampes (Essonne).
Following the example of the master sculptor and renowned portraitist, the students take to the stage and pose in Haussmann-style Elias Robert style. Between solemn 19th-century allure and relaxed contemporary attitudes, the students present offbeat portraits through the prism of photography.
Presentation of the "La classe, l'œuvre!" project by the CM2 class at Châteaubriand school in Morigny-Champigny (Essonne).
Elias Robert is the creator of numerous sculptures inspired by Antiquity, including caryatids, bas-reliefs and medallions. In connection with the Pentathlon des Muses and the Olympic Games, students exhibit medals inspired by Elias Robert.
