Museum Night takes place this Saturday, May 18, 2024 in Paris and Île-de-France. It's an opportunity to discover the Musée de la Maison Gainsbourg, which immerses us in the world of a monument of French song: Serge Gainsbourg. Here's the program for this exceptional nocturne.

On Saturday, May 18, 2024, the Nuit des Musées (Night of the Museums) invites us to experience an exceptional evening in cultural venues. Museums, chateaux, monuments, art foundations and even cultural centers- every year, many of them in Paris and the Paris region open their doors to us in the evening, often free of charge, to share the treasures of our heritage with us, and to let us enjoy events designed for young and old alike. For this 20th edition, it's no surprise that there are plenty of great ideas for outings and events to enjoy on this special evening, which puts culture in the spotlight.

For this Nuit des Musées 2024, it's time to meet a new museum in Paris that takes us to the heart of the universe of a monument to French chanson: Serge Gainsbourg. Located in the heart of his Parisian residence in the 7th arrondissement, this music-loving museum, whose opening was eagerly awaited, offers us a touching immersion in the career of the artist who left his mark on the world with both his music and his personality.

    Saturday, May 18, 7:00 pm

The Maison Gainsbourg, a new cultural institution opened by Charlotte Gainsbourg in September 2023, is dedicated to the transmission of Serge Gainsbourg's work.

For its first participation in the European Night of Museums, the Maison Gainsbourg invites visitors to discover its permanent museum tour, as well as a small temporary exhibition at the end of the tour.

Divided into eight chronological chapters, the museum's permanent tour follows the artist's life and career, from his birth in the Paris of the Roaring Twenties to his death in 1991. Nearly 450 objects are on display, including manuscripts, works of art, trinkets, clothes and jewelry.
Eight screens opposite the display cases show a selection of iconic and rare archive footage. On these images, some of which have never been shown before, Serge Gainsbourg recounts his own career in voice-over.

The visit continues with the Gainsbarre, a café by day and piano bar by night, and then on to the bookshop-boutique. Conceived as a concept store, it features a range of objects carefully selected to evoke the artist's rich universe.

The "museum only" tour will be available by registration only from Monday May 6, 2024, for a visit on Saturday May 18, 2024: first slot at 7pm, last slot at 11pm. The visit to Serge Gainsbourg's historic home is not included.
