The Mobilier national, located on avenue des Gobelins in Paris, is taking part in this 20th edition of Nuit des Musées on Saturday, May 18, 2024. An opportunity to discover the current exhibition free of charge.

The event is eagerly awaited every year by art and heritage enthusiasts, as well as the curious and those looking for good deals in Paris. On Saturday, May 18, 2024, Nuit des Musées returns for its 20th edition. On the program: hundreds of places to visit, events, games, concerts, exhibitions... And many other surprises not to be missed in the capital and Île-de-France.

Nuit des Musées brings the whole of Paris to life, including the 13th arrondissement. If you're in the area, be sure to take a stroll down the Avenue des Gobelins, to visit the Mobilier National - Manufacture des Gobelins. This public establishment is the furniture repository of the French Republic: its mission is to furnish the country's official buildings, such as ministries and the Palais de l'Elysée. It is also responsible for the conservation, restoration and creation of crafts related to tapestry, furniture, woodwork, decoration, etc.

The Mobilier National conserves pieces and objets d'art dating from the 16th century to the present day, and sometimes exhibits these treasures in its Gobelins gallery. The Nuit des Musées is the perfect opportunity to visit this unique Parisian venue, and find out what's new at the institution.

On the program for this Nuit des Musées at the Mobilier national/Manufacture des Gobelins:

  • Meeting with the restorers of the Notre-Dame Mays
    Saturday, May 18, 7:00 pm

The "Grands décors restaurés de Notre-Dame" exhibition is a unique opportunity to showcase the richness of the cathedral's decorations, placing them in their context of creation.
The Nuit des musées at the Galerie des Gobelins is an opportunity to learn more by talking directly to the restorers who worked on the Mays collection and who will be providing mediation.
Join us in front of the Mays on the first floor of the Galerie to discover the technical and scientific expertise of the restoration teams who helped restore the pieces on display, revealing these ensembles in a whole new light.

  • Self-guided tour of the Grands décors restaurés de Notre-Dame exhibition
    Saturday, May 18, 7:00 pm

On the eve of the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris on December 8, the Mobilier national and the Direction régionale des affaires culturelles d'Île-de-France (Ministère de la Culture) are joining forces to present to the public the masterpieces of the building's interior decor: twenty-one large-format paintings, including thirteen large "mays", restored as part of a project carried out with the support of the Centre de recherche et de restauration des musées de France (C2RMF).
Other remarkable items include the fourteen-piece hanging of the life of the Virgin, woven to adorn the choir in the 17th century and now conserved at Strasbourg Cathedral, and the immense Savonnerie carpet given to the cathedral by King Charles X, whose restoration has just been completed at the Mobilier National.
Finally, in agreement with the Diocese of Paris, models of the future liturgical furniture currently under construction are also on display. Restoration and creation blend together, from the 17th to the 21st century, to make the cathedral not only a jewel of Gothic art, but also a showcase for objects of art and piety of exceptional quality.

A cultural evening not to be missed, as every year!
