Great news for our musician friends, as the Fête de la musiquereturns on Sunday, June 21, 2026 across France with a brand-new edition that's just as festive! With a program that remains rich and eclectic, the Fête de la musique is the perfect occasion for budding musicians to share their passion with a broad audience for a single, unique, and celebratory day. And all genres are in the spotlight. Whether you love rock, rap, electro, world music, or classical music… you’ll surely find something to enjoy!
For a reminder, the Fête de la Musique was created in 1982 at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture. That year, the Ministry’s Studies and Research Service carried out a major survey on French cultural practices. It revealed that five million people, including one in two young people, play a musical instrument. From there, Jack Lang, Christian Dupavillon, an architect-designer and member of his Cabinet, and Maurice Fleuret envisioned a large, popular event with the aim of giving all musicians a platform to express themselves and gain recognition. The very first Fête de la Musique was launched on June 21, 1982, the symbolic day of the summer solstice.
If you’re planning to celebrate in the Val-de-Marne, then head to the town of Cachan, which again this year offers a rich and varied programme. In fact, this year the commune of Cachan will celebrate the music from June 12 to 24, 2026, culminating in a grand free concert scheduled for Friday, June 19 at 7:00 PM on the Raspail Park stage.
After welcoming in past years Cats on Trees, Uzi Freyja, Vendredi sur Mer, Catherine Ringer, Jeanne Added, Miossec, Youssoupha, Yuri Buenaventura, Fatals Picards and Anaïs, who has the honor of lighting up this Fête de la musique 2026 in Cachan? Well, on June 19, this year you’ll meet the locally born artist David Lewis, the Solann—the female revelation at the 2025 Victoires de la Musique—or Mariam from the famous Malian duo Amadou & Mariam.
