New Fête de la musique in France on Sunday, June 21, 2026! This year, the renowned and beloved public celebration falls on a Friday. A perfect opportunity to enjoy a long, vibrant musical evening before the weekend!
Organized for the first time in France in 1982, the first Fête de la Musique was the brainchild of Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, Maurice Fleuret and Christian Dupavillon, architect-scenographer and cabinet member. At the time, they wanted to launch a major popular event that would enable all musicians to play and make themselves known during a festive evening.
And it's been a huge success for over 40 years now! Every June 21, budding musicians and singers take to the streets to bring live music to life. From rock to rap, pop to electro, reggae to classical, zouk to metal, French variety to blues and jazz... all kinds of music are featured during the Fête de la musique.
There’s no shortage of music fan perks that day, filling squares, parks and gardens, boulevards and plazas, bridges, cafés and bars, and even museums and churches... Free concerts pop up all over the capital, in every neighborhood, from Montmartre to the Latin Quarter, the Marais, and Paris Centre. Looking for a great plan in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th arrondissements of the city? Discover now the free concerts on June 21, 2026 in Paris Centre.
