While swimming remains the leading discipline in all water sports, water polo, artistic swimming and diving are also popular. Where can you train in Paris and the Ile-de-France region?

As a flagship discipline of the Summer Olympics, water sports are well represented in Paris and more broadly throughout the Île-de-France region. From diving to water polo to artistic (or synchronized) swimming, it is possible to train for these sports in the most iconic Parisian swimming pools, mostly under supervision.

These three sports— synchronized swimming, diving, and water polo —are supervised and represented by the French Swimming Federation (FFN), which encompasses all disciplines, including speed swimming.

Artistic swimming

Also known as synchronized swimming, artistic swimming is a choreographed routine performed by a pair or a team of eight swimmers (male or female, although the sport is predominantly female). The athletes must be perfectly synchronized and perform a series of lifts and choreographed movements underwater. Synchronized swimming can be practiced by children as young as 6 or 7, depending on the club.

Diving

Diving consists of a series of acrobatic figures (somersaults and other flips) performed by jumping from a springboard fixed at a height of three meters or from a high diving platform fixed at a height of ten meters. The jumps are then evaluated according to the beauty of the movements, their complexity, or, in the case of duet events, the synchronization of the two divers.
